MANCHESTER – On April 8, our region will experience a partial solar eclipse. Since this will occur near the end of the school day, we are sharing information to ensure everyone is prepared. In a solar eclipse, the moon passes between the sun and the Earth. Manchester is not in the "path of totality," meaning that we will not see a total solar eclipse, however it will still create quite a spectacle and leave our area briefly in the dark.
April 8 will be a normal school day, however we are making preparations and taking some additional precautions. Ahead of the eclipse, our schools will share information with students about solar eclipses, and most importantly how to remain safe. Our main concerns are ensuring:
Students are not looking at the sun without proper eye protection
Everyone is using extra caution traveling when it is dark outside
