Reminder: No School Tuesday!

Morning arrival starting 9/9

Breakfast is available daily at 8:00 in the cafeteria. Only students eating breakfast can enter the school before 8:15, and once they are in, they will not be allowed to leave the building. Please remember that our teachers don't start until 8:15. So, if your child wants to play on the playground before school, they should be accompanied by an adult. We do have a few staff members who work in the cafeteria at 8:00 AM to ensure all students have the ability to have breakfast before the day starts.

Starting Monday, teachers will not meet the students on the playground. Instead students will enter the building at 8:15. K will enter through the cafeteria, 1st will enter the modular, 2nd+4th through the back library door, and 3rd through the garden door. These doors will close at 8:30, and any students arriving after 8:30 will need to enter the main entrance to pick up a tardy pass before going to class. Instruction starts at 8:30, so it is extremely important for students to be in their classrooms and ready to learn before 8:30.

School ends at 2:50. The teacher will lead each class to the playground for pickup. We would appreciate it if you could wait for your child's class to reach their designated pickup area before picking up your child. For the safety of all students, please be sure the teacher acknowledges you have connected with your child. Thank you.

The playground will be locked during the school day to help keep our campus more secure. Everyone will need to be out of the playground area by 8:30 so we can lock the gates. The locks will be removed from the gates in the afternoon for dismissal.

Show Up Manchester!

Last school year, the Manchester school district launched the Show Up Manchester campaign to improve student attendance, and this initiative will continue to be a top priority this year. When a student misses 10% of school, which amounts to two days a month, it is considered chronically absent and can have a significant impact on a child’s learning and social development. This can also disrupt the development of crucial attendance habits needed for success in school. Just two days of absence per month can lead to difficulties in learning to read by third grade, and by sixth grade, it becomes a warning sign that a student may drop out of high school. Additionally, excessive excused absences contribute to significant learning loss, which is why it is vital for us to work together to minimize them.

It's worth noting that Beech Street had the most improved attendance last year among all the elementary schools. To continue encouraging our students to attend school and be on time, we will be organizing monthly contests. Some of the incentives classes chose last year included a visit from the MPD mini horse, lunch with the school resource officer from McLaughlin, and a Fire Department touch-a-truck visit.

This year, we are determined to further enhance our attendance rate. We understand that there will be unavoidable absences, especially due to illness. It's crucial for students to stay home if they are unwell. If your child is sick, they should only return to school once they have been free from fever, vomiting, and diarrhea for 24 hours without taking medication. If your child needs to stay home, please inform the school so that we can excuse their absence. Thank you for your cooperation.
