It is not intended for discussing individual student progress. Last school year, the Manchester school district launched the Show Up Manchester campaign to improve student attendance, and this initiative will continue to be a top priority this year. When a student misses 10% of school, which amounts to two days a month, it is considered chronically absent and can have a significant impact on a child’s learning and social development. This can also disrupt the development of crucial attendance habits needed for success in school. Just two days of absence per month can lead to difficulties in learning to read by third grade, and by sixth grade, it becomes a warning sign that a student may drop out of high school. Additionally, excessive excused absences contribute to significant learning loss, which is why it is vital for us to work together to minimize them.
It's worth noting that Beech Street had the most improved attendance last year among all the elementary schools. To continue encouraging our students to attend school and be on time, we will be organizing monthly contests. Some of the incentives classes chose last year included a visit from the MPD mini horse, lunch with the school resource officer from McLaughlin, and a Fire Department touch-a-truck visit.
This year, we are determined to further enhance our attendance rate. We understand that there will be unavoidable absences, especially due to illness. It's crucial for students to stay home if they are unwell. If your child is sick, they should only return to school once they have been free from fever, vomiting, and diarrhea for 24 hours without taking medication. If your child needs to stay home, please inform the school so that we can excuse their absence. Thank you for your cooperation. |
